Introduction
Situated at the bank of River Pamba, Annavaram is a holy village. It is located in the East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The word “Anna” refers to what you want and the word “varam” refers to a god gift or boon.  Thus the name of the holy village itself implies that the gods will endow with what you pray for and desire for.
The most famous and distinctive feature of this holy village is the Sir Satyanarayana Swamy Temple. It is believed that the all the whishes and desires of the devotees who worship here are fulfilled by the deity. The Satyanarayana Vrata is performed to offer prayers to the Ananta Lakshmi Satyavathi Ammavaru Goddess.
The village is known to one of the most holy places of Andhra Pradesh next only to the Tirupati Balaji temple. The Satyanarayana Vrata is performed by almost all the families while marriage or house warming ceremonies. The temple is situated on the top of Ratnagiri Hill and is approximately one kilometer above its base.  Along with the sanctity of temple the view also offers a picturesque view of the villages and fields.
The main temple of the village has a beautiful Vishwakarma Brahmin architecture and is built in the form of chariot.  The pillar in the centre and the Meru is on the floor along with the idols at the top depicts the idea that God permeates the whole universe and resides in our heart’s center. The four wheels at the four corners depict the Moon and Sun and this reminds the devotees that Juggernaut spins the time wheels which go on forever. The temple depicts both the spiritualistic and ritualistic values.

History
It is written in our puranas that the Lord of the hills, Meruvu and his consort, Meneka undertook great penance to achieve the gift of two sons, Ratnakara and Bhadra, by Lord Vishnu.  Bhadra then undertook great penance to please Lord Vishnu and succeeded to become Bhadrachalam a vehicle on which Lord Shri Ram sat permanently. On the other hand Ratnakara pleased Lord Vishnu to become the Ratnagiri hill. It is believed that the then zamindar had a dream which guided him to the idol and worship it and establish it as a temple.
