City description and overview

Mariazell is a miniature city located in Styria, Austria. It is recognized in the whole wide world for winter sports. This divine city is hidden in the valley of Salza amid Styrian Alps. It holds tremendous value for Catholics and is given the status of a highly distinguished pilgrimage site in the whole of Austria. It can easily accommodate around 1500 souls according to the latest statistical data. The Virgin, which is the basic object of veneration, is beautifully engraved in a lime tree which was later brought in 1157 and today it has been magnificently enshrined in a chapel.

The best time to visit this splendid town is during winters because it is during this time the winter sports are held. This particular sport is very reputable in the entire universe and every winter a large number of tourists visit this historical and magical land. If we talk about tourist attractions then this place has it all. Be it the Mariazell shrine or the Mariazell basilica this town is gifted with divine attractions. The shrine is the most visited tourist attraction here. Every year around a million pilgrims from all over the world visit here. The three wet towers can easily be seen from here whereas the central one is gothic in design and was preserved during the 14th century. The other two towers were added later on. The basilica was constructed during the 24th century with a brilliant baroque interior. The church is called the ‘Gnadenkapelle’ and a tiny holy image of Marian is kept here.
